The final three submission to the Week 12 Prompt, Hands, each have approaced the subject in a different way with a individual technique. Each artist has worked in their own style producing special works, each as unique as their hand.
KM
KM decided she wanted to draw her right hand... even though she is right-handed! Rather than take a photo to work from she drew from life - Brownie Points! Concentrating and observing her hand pose, she then took up her pencil and drew what she remembered and interperted as she drew.
I think this is a really interesting approach and I find her drawing quite intriguing. It is not an overly realistic drawing but it is certainly a great character drawing of a hand. It has a certain abstract quailty and freshness that I find attractive.
I think that the thumb is a little too much like a finger shape, but it is in the correct position at the base of the palm. The proportions are not bad over all, the palm area could be a bit longer, the wrist further down. I love the observation of the wrinkles, bumps, lumps and joints that make this hand distinctive.
The more I look at this drawing them more I like it.

KatK
KatK had chosen a more traditional approach to her drawing. She usually likes to take great care and spend a lot of time on her drawings, so doing a 'fast' prompt like this is a bit out of her comfort zone. Although 'fast' for her is this 4-5 hour drawing!
This slightly creepy pose was drawn on 140gsm Derivan drawing paper with Staedler 2H & 2B and a Faber Castell 6B. The slightly rough surface of the Derivan paper gives the tones a lovely grain quality. The foreshortening of the fingers is really well done. Maybe a bit more tone under the pointer finger to make the tip stand out more? The dark linework creates deep creases and good tonal contrast.
KatK says that it was difficult to hold this pose for 5 hours - and I am not surprised! I bet her hand well and truely cramped up. But full marks for persevering as this prompt was for a 'life' pose, not a photo.
Great job. But why have you not signed it KatK?

Monika
In her visual diary, with Derwent Sketching pencils 2H, HB and 2B, Monika has drawn this very interesting 'Peace Mudra' pose of her left hand. This was a very tricky pose to draw, I don't know if I would have atttempted it! Her proportions look spot on - even to the perspective recession of the pinky finger. I am quite impressed by this - and also like how Monika realised that her middle finger was going to be longer than expected, but she just drew it to the correct length and didn't try to shorten it to avoid the metal coils of the diary page. The relationship of distances between the fingers, palm and wrist are all excellent.
This is quite a linear drawing. Monika has added some tonal work, but rather tentatively. I think you need to determine if you want a strong line drawing and focus on that alone, OR develop the tonal aspect more. I quite like the linear feel, and where you have used cross hatching on the back of the hand to indicate tone and the bones/veins works quite well. I think she could use this cross hatch technique elsewhere to great effect, I see you have started to use it elsewhere, you just need to push it more. Remember, these are practice sketches, don't be frightened to experiment and try something new.
This is a nice drawing Monika - but I must ask, you wear your wedding ring on your middle finger?
