Week 13: JD

JD gets the Gold Star this week! ⭐

First submission this week - not one, but two excellent drawings from JD for this week's prompt 'Ruin'.  Each drawing was done in her Windosr Newtion 200gsm visual diary using black Artline 220 Superfine 0.2 and Artline 200 fine 0.4 pens. She started by laying down some tone using Inktense block colour washed, then detail with the black pens. Wanting a bit more colour after the black linework, JD did some more colour washes but fears she may have 'meshed' it up a bit. Let's have a look:

Drawing 1

Old Shearing Shed by JD

JD's first drawing is of the old shearing shed from the homestead where she grew up. It is a building full of character and age and must be at least 60 years old .
Some great work here JD - lovely attention to perspective. The really great thing about dawing this type of building is that although you need to get your perspective 'right' it need not be totally precise as the build sways and bows with age. You have achieved this well here, especially noted is the ridgeline of the roof that meets the perspective lines of the fencework to the vanishing point on your horizon.
hmmm, all our classes last year in perspective paid off, eh?
I personally would like to see a bit more shading on the shadow side of the building, maybe done in a bit of colour like a blue grey and some darker tones under the building, cast shadows from the fence posts. I think you realised this and tried to add some colour after, its not 'meshed up' but try and think ahead next time where and how to place this tone first. Unless, of course, your reference showed this on a dull day at noon, then you would naturally have an even tone across the building.
I think you have created a good drawing that succeeds well in showing the old shed's character and age.

Drawing #2

Mancu Pichu by JD

Well JD, you really nailed this one! This is great. What more can I say? Lovely attention to perspective. Interesting use of thick and thin line work with a little texture here and there to create variation in the stone work. Just a hint, the right amout of colour and tone to suggest recession.
Top work! You should be very happy with this one.
