Week 13: MP and K

I am just loving the works you are all sending in to me. Something about this weeks prompt and medium seems to have really inspired you all!

MP

Oh! MP, I am in love with this drawing you have done of Glastonbury Abbey. MP has used washes of graphitint for colour, a Unipen 0.1 black and Signo white pigment pen on 300gsm Art Spectrum Hot Press paper.
This drawing has beautiful attention to detail without being overfussy - just enough is said with the linework. The graceful gothic arch with stone carving is elegantly done. The delicate shadows falling from the coloumns and walls give the work depth and reality. And the hints of green weeds at the top and highlights of white on the old stone set off the drawing wonderfully. A top work MP!

K.

K loves old piers and bridges, and she especially loves drawing old wood. To create this fascinating study she has used Fineliner pens on Canson 220 drawing paper. This is a strongly graphic drawing that expresses the grain, knots and weathering of the wood in line. The blackened, rotted sections of the planks create drama to the drawing that is enhanced by the subtle touches of sepia in the three rusty nails. I love that K has not 'rusted' up all four of the nails, but has kept one darker black creating an interesting focal point on the drawing. What appears at first to be a simple drawing of planks on a pier has in fact a great degree of complexity of composition, design and technique.
Wonderful!
