Week 13: Rosalie

An Outback Ruin

I love how Rosalie has embraced the theme this week, think beyond my suggestion of a ruined building and creating this striking image of a derlict car she photographed in outback WA, near Lenora. She has used Black and Sepia inks over watercolour washes on Fabriano Cold Press 300gsm. Working freehand from a photo Rosalie says she is a little concerned that the top of the cab is too wide to be realistic, but I am not overly concerned about it. Rather, I think this drawing has a great deal of charm. It has a strong graphic element to it and the slightly out of proportion cab doesn't hurt the overall effect of the drawing at all. This car is a real ruin, a rusty forgotten wreck - Rosalie had captured the forlon ruin well. I would have been tempted to add a few sepia ink strokes of some dry grasses around the base to 'ground' the image, but it doesn't need it. Excellent work Rosalie.
